Welcome to your newsletter for This
newsletter and its articles have been put together by local people with the
support of the development workers at the Mede Centre. We will be featuring
events happening at the Mede, what the Inns Court Residents Association
(ICRA) are up to and how to get involved, and also services which are
available to children and young people on the Inns Court estate and the
surrounding area. The publication of this newsletter was made possible by a
generous grant from Greater Bristol Foundation.

RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION
(I.C.R.A)
Welcome to the
(I.C.R.A) I.C.R.A is a voluntary organisation and
involves all residents living in the Support and advice is offered to any
residents with queries. Our
aim is to create an environment that is pleasant for everyone.
BLACK PATH CLEAN – UP Our last clean-up was held on Friday 4th
June, 2004. Many local residents arrived including
young people from Inns Court Youth Project. The event proved to be a
success and those involved were rewarded with a burger or hotdog from the
Barbecue. Food was supplied by Knightstone Housing and we had a lot of
support from CSV (Community Support Volunteers), Clean and Green from BCC. Our next plan of attack will be the
area enclosed by Stainer, Travers and Elgar. Because of concerns for
safety, sub-contractors will be tackling most of the wooded area before the
residents get involved.
Our thanks for help and support go to
Richard Lawrence (Housing Officer, BCC), Clean & Green for supplying
tools, gloves, bins and lorry, CSV, our local police officers - Matt Ayres, Frank Simmonds and Paul Deer,
Jim Wall – cleansing officer, Anthony Keyes and Sarah Segal from

INFORMATION ON THE
In September 2003 Ferguson Mann delivered a
masterplan with proposals for further housing at
A Project Board and Project Team have now been
formed to implement the `Revised Master Plan' for
Like most ideas the `devil' is in the detail. The Council need to know what it can do and
cannot do. For example, we need to know the ground condition on the areas
highlighted for housing development; if the ground condition is satisfactory,
how many units can be built; where is the best possible access to any new
houses and, most importantly, how can we finance some of the masterplan's
aspirations.
In order to find out what can be achieved from the
masterplan we have commissioned Ferguson Mann Architects to carry out a
feasibility study. This will lead to
putting together a development brief and then the appointment of a
developer. Resident involvement will
occur at each stage with the greater involvement at the detailed design stage
after a preferred developer is selected.
A strategy on how residents can be and will be involved will be drawn
up. We will only select a developer if
the study to be carried out concludes that the masterplan is practical and
financially workable. The Project Team
will consult with the Residents' Rep on a development brief that will be used
to tender for a preferred developer. We
are hoping to start the selection process some time in January 2005; important
criteria for selection will be their ability to work with residents.
A member from the Project Team reports back at
Inns Court Residents Association meetings.
If you would like to become more involved in shaping your estate for the
future, then come along to their meetings which are advertised.
Play work at the Mede
For
5 – 14 Yrs
Our Play scheme this summer
was brilliant. With 35 children registered onto the scheme, we ran 2 sessions

tye-dyeing, clay and plaster of Paris modelling. The children did some group
work about bullying, fire danger, road safety and stranger danger. They had
several workshops, hip-hop, street dance, samba drumming and Want not workshop.
On the last session, we all enjoyed a Disco and the staff, children and some of
the parents’ got to say good-bye to Tina, one of our play workers. There were 4
trips: Cineworld and the
Evaluation forms were
handed out to parents/carers during the last week of Play scheme and we had a
very good response with many forms being returned. They were all very positive
with a few suggestions for the future.
